beginning cartography: the study of maps

Today we compared three different maps in class, three different maps
The first is a map of the United States, with different states in different colors. The map has details of mountains, rivers and so on.
The second map is a map of the world, also known as a Mercator map. This map shows different countries, each with different colors. This map also has mountains, rivers, compasses, scales.
The third map is also a map of the world, but unlike the second, the third map unfolds the earth, looking at it from space. The colors vary from continent to continent, and the latitude and longitude are markedly different. Mountains and rivers are nowhere to be seen on this map.
Each of the three maps is unique and useful.
