Professor Rosling

Professor Rosling gave us a unique visualization of population and income trends over the last 200 years "an entirely new, converging, world,"  "everyone can make it to the healthy, wealthy corner." In video, it shows the changes of life expectancy and economy in countries around the world from 200 years ago to the present Some countries are growing very fast, some countries are growing very slowly for other reasons, some countries are growing very differently from other parts of the country But overall all countries are on the rise

Population pyramid

I received my test score today, and it's not bad. In class today, we saw a video about population pyramid, which includes Rwanda, Canada and Japan, representing three different types of population pyramid. A population pyramid, also called an "age-sex- pyramid", is a graphical illustration that shows the distribution of various age groups in a population, which forms the shape of a pyramid when the population is growing. 1. Rwanda Population growing quickly The pre - industrialized 2. Canada Population grows slowly industrialized 3. Japan Population declines Post - industral

Test review

I took a make-up test in class today. The test is not difficult on the whole, it's all about what you've learned. But there are some mistakes in some terms, may not understand the depth of it Another question that makes me feel difficult is the bonus question, asking what is the Net Migration Rate of the world. If the world remains the same, what is the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) These errors remind me that I must understand the questions carefully in the future

10.18 Why do people migrate?

Why do people migrate? !!! push forces civil war environmental degradation unemployment or underemployment religious or ethnic persecution pull forces better economic opportunity better health services religious freedom political freedom Total Fertility Rate (TFR) TFR: average number of children born per woman for a population to remain the same, the TFR must be 2.1  If it’s higher than 2.1: population rises If it’s lower than 2.1: population falls World TFR:      2.42  (it was 2.54 two years ago, 2.47 last year)   US TFR:          2.01 (it was 2.06 last year) Nigeria TFR:   6.89 (developing nation) Japan TFR:     1.40 (developed nation, aging population)

crude birth/death rate number of birth/death per 1000 of the population rate of natural increase produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate this gives us the annual natural growth rate. -the percentage form-form country or region Net Migration Rate: the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during a year an excess of persons entering the country is net immigration written as a positive number example: Canada has 5.65 migrants per 1,000 population                 United States: 2.45 (it was 3.62 in 2015) an excess of persons leaving the country is net emigration written as a negative number example: Mexico has -1.68 migrants per 1,000 population                                -3.61 two years ago, -3.11 last year

Terms life expectancy birth rate death rate Rate of Natural Increase (RNI) infant mortality rate immigrant emigrant Net Migration Rate Total Fertility Rate (TFR) push forces pull forces And, as always, there will be the Key Issues to consider: Where is the world's population distributed? Population density in different parts of the world is not evenly distributed. The Asian monsoon region, the European plain and the eastern part of North America are the most densely populated places in the world. Why is global population increasing? New lives are being born and life expectancy is rising Why does population growth vary among regions? Some countries are ageing badly Why do some nations face health threats? Some countries are underdeveloped buy some countries have war

After the test review

Today, our test results came out, and my test results were not ideal, and I made some mistakes in some basic questions. These questions will appear on the exam, so we need to keep them and review them But luckily, there were a few questions that didn't get the answer right There are also a lot of students have a dispute with the teacher on some topics, they debate Finally, we blog until the end of the class

test

Today we did a test on latitude and longitude, time zones and maps in class Some of them, we did on the quiz last week, but fortunately I remember them. Fortunately, today's test is an open blog exam. We can check our blog, but we can't cheat The content of the test is relatively simple, I don't need to check my blog very much, because my blog doesn't record a lot of things The only question that puzzled me was about the time relationship between San Francisco and Maryland, and my answer was that when San Francisco was 11:30, Maryland was 2:30 and I hope I'm right

five weeks down, around thirty to go...

Today, we did a quiz about latitude and longitude in class, which was a sudden disaster for me. The questions were about latitude and longitude, time difference, maps and so on, and the time of each quiz was also very short, which made me get a bad score. I am even less confident about the test next week. I must study hard this weekend. In the second half of the class we will blog and study the exam questions. For this latitude and longitude test, to be able to learn the content of review.

Quiz day

Today, we did a quiz about north and South America in class. I'm very happy that I got a hundred points. We also learned about time zones Canada, Russia and Greenland are all divided into many time zones. China uses one time zone for the whole country, maybe because Chinese people can celebrate festivals together We also learned about daylight saving time in the United States. I remember that in spring this year, I was still staying up at 2 am in the evening and it was suddenly 3 am when I was looking at my mobile phone. Although it was very interesting, it deprived me of an hour of sleep. Today is China's National Day. At that time, I was thinking that if the whole time was in a time zone, I could celebrate National Day with Chinese people at the same time and watch the live broadcast of National Day military parade
