Today we learned about latitude, and we learned about absolute location  where we look for points on the earth based on longitude and latitude. We know the meridian And how do you measure distance from the meridian The equator is farthest from the poles Tomorrow is China's National Day, the Chinese people will rest for seven days, we will also have a quiz tomorrow.

grids

We learned these words in class and got all the meaning grids and time zones the definition of geography the definition of maps maps serve two purposes relative location parallels meridians latitude longitude significant parallels equator Prime Meridian Also, be prepared for a series of quizzes - and a test - that will come next week.

mapping, site, and situation

Today we're going to focus on situations in class We learned about Singapore in Asia, the development of Singapore and the strait of malacca. Freighters from China and other Asian countries often pass through, which is one reason for Singapore's rapid growth We also discussed why most things in the United States are made in China. China's large population and poor people lead some factories to collect child labor and ship them back to the United States at a low price.

Site and Situation

We learned some knowledge about site today site is the physical character of a place  The combination of physical features gives each place a distinctive character. Site factors have always been essential in selecting locations for settlements, although people have disagreed on the attributes of a good site, depending on cultural values. climate, water, sources, topography, soil, vegetation, latitude, elevation human have the ability to modify the characteristics of a site

Review test

Today we review the test, My grades are a bit bad I missed three multiple choice questions I made lot of mistakes in filling in the blanks The essay is ok, the teacher gave me a lot of points Overall, there is a lot of room for improvement Better next time

Mercator VS. Peters

Today we compare two maps of Mercator and Peters. The biggest difference between them is that one is the drawing map of the earth and the other is the flat map of the earth The two are quite different, and each has its own use. Here are some of the descriptions I found. The Peters projection is unique among world maps because the area ratios of all the continents are the same as they are in reality. That is, Greenland doesn’t seem larger than Africa, as the much-more-popular Mercator projection shows. On the Peters projection, the gargantuan continents of Africa and Asia appear quite large, while usually-inflated polar regions such as Canada and Greenland shrink back to their proper sizes. The Mercator projection, by comparison, grossly distorts the sizes of the continents – causing the Greenland-is-larger-than-Africa effect – but stays true to their shapes. Geographically speaking, the shapes are more important. It is far easier to change the scale of a map for different areas of th

beginning cartography: the study of maps

Today we compared three different maps in class, three different maps The first is a map of the United States, with different states in different colors. The map has details of mountains, rivers and so on. The second map is a map of the world, also known as a Mercator map. This map shows different countries, each with different colors. This map also has mountains, rivers, compasses, scales. The third map is also a map of the world, but unlike the second, the third map unfolds the earth, looking at it from space. The colors vary from continent to continent, and the latitude and longitude are markedly different. Mountains and rivers are nowhere to be seen on this map. Each of the three maps is unique and useful.

test

I was very impressed by our test which included multiple choice, fill in the blanks and short answer questions Passing this test made me understand that I should write more, take notes of what I learn in class and review more after class It was a good experience. I hope I can improve next time

definition 1.agora The agora was a central public space in ancient Greek city-states. The literal meaning of the word is "gathering place" or "assembly". The agora was the center of the athletic, artistic, spiritual and political life in the city. The Ancient Agora of Athens is the best-known example. 2.Polis plural literally means city in Greek. It can also mean a body of citizens. In modern historiography, polis is normally used to indicate the ancient Greek city-states, like Classical Athens and its contemporaries, and thus is often translated as "city-state". These cities consisted of a fortified city centre built on an acropolis or harbor and controlled surrounding territories of land . 3.508 BC Democracy is introduced in Athens by Cleisthenes. He establishes a constitution and is often called the "Father of Athenian Democracy". This is one of the great accomplishments of the Greek culture. 4.Socrates Socrates philosopher credited as

A Message to Garcia

This week we read about "A Message to Garcia" The article briefly stated that when the spanish-american war broke out, the United States had to contact the Spanish rebel leader Garcia immediately. Garcia was in the mountains in the jungles of Cuba, and no one knew exactly where to bring him a message, when a man named rowan, without asking any questions, took the letter and set out in search of Garcia. Rowan had no problem finding Garcia, and here's my opinion 1. Rowan was fluent in Cuban, and the President had no choice but to choose rowan and let rowan do everything, and rowan knew that. If rowan doesn't speak Cuban, I'm sure he'll ask questions. 2. As for feedback, rowan and the President could not give timely feedback at such a long distance and time, so "no problem" was the best feedback to the President at that time. I think rowan must have confidence to take the letter from the President at that time 3. The President can only trust rowan,
